ADELAIDE-BALI AIRASIA’s NEW ROUTE STRENGTHENS AUSSIE TOURIST ACCESS TO RI

THE commencement of Indonesia AirAsia’s direct flight on the Adelaide-Denpasar (round-trip) route is anticipated to enhance accessibility for foreign tourists, particularly those traveling from Australia to Bali and other destinations in Indonesia (RI).

On Thursday, June 26, 2025, Indonesia AirAsia commenced official operations, as marked by the landing of the aircraft with the QZ421 flight code at Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali. AirAsia QZ421 flights will operate with a frequency of four times per week, on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.

Ms. Ni Made Ayu Marthini, the Ministry of Tourism’s Deputy for Marketing, has confirmed that Indonesia AirAsia is one of the ministry’s strategic partners. The airline previously inaugurated the Darwin-Denpasar route in March 2025, marking a significant expansion of its network. This development led to the establishment of four Indonesia AirAsia routes, effectively connecting Australia and Bali.

The Bali hub facilitates the extension of tourist journeys to various destinations in Indonesia for visitors from Australia, thereby increasing both the duration and expenditure of their stay. This journey begins in Jakarta, the vibrant heart of national activity, and culminates in Labuan Bajo, the gateway to the renowned Komodo National Park.

She expressed her optimism, stating, “We anticipate that the enhanced flight routes offered by Indonesia AirAsia, encompassing both international and domestic destinations, will stimulate the growth of quality tourist visits between Australia and Indonesia. This is particularly significant for destinations such as Bali, Lombok, Labuan Bajo, Medan, Yogyakarta, and other notable locations in Indonesia.”

It is anticipated that this route will appeal to tourists from Adelaide, as well as from southern Australia and neighboring regions.

“We are optimistic that this route will make a significant contribution to the target of Australian tourist visits of 1.9 million Australian foreign tourists this year,” Made stated.

Australia is among the most significant tourist-generating markets for Indonesia. Its growth trajectory has been consistently positive on an annual basis. According to the latest BPS data, there has been a significant increase in Australian tourist visits, with a 17 percent growth from the previous year. This indicates that the number of visits reached 1.67 million in 2024.

From January to April of 2025, Australia received 511,678 tourist visits from foreign visitors, with 474,277 of those visits being made by foreign tourists. This figure also increased by approximately 7 percent compared to visits in the same period in 2024, which stood at 441,162. This fact confirms that Bali remains a favorite destination for Australian tourists.

Meanwhile the Acting Director of Indonesia AirAsia, Captain Achmad Sadikin Abdurachman, believes that every Indonesian AIRASIA flight fosters collaboration and potential. This includes fostering cultural exchange, facilitating economic cooperation, and promoting two-way tourism development.

It is estimated that the new Adelaide-Denpasar route will contribute to the annual influx of over 74,000 Australian tourists.

In addition to being a major tourist destination, Bali plays an important role as a regional connectivity center in the AirAsia flight network, offering advanced flights to other destinations in Indonesia.

“We are proud to announce the inaugural flight of Indonesia AirAsia from Bali to Adelaide. In addition to providing direct access to Bali, a popular destination, this new service also offers more options for passengers seeking affordable connections to over 130 destinations within the AirAsia network in Asia and nearby regions,” he stated.

Likewise Brenton Cox, the Managing Director of Adelaide Airport, shared insights on the travel patterns of South Australians, highlighting a notable preference for Bali as a preferred international destination.

“Bali is the largest international destination for us, and it is also experiencing the fastest growth. “The presence of Indonesia AirAsia will provide tourists with more choices. It will also be the first airline based in Adelaide to offer direct routes since 2015,” Cox concluded. [traveltext.id]
