MINISTER AIRLANGGA: BOEING PURCHASE PLAN STILL UNDER NEGOTIATION

COORDINATING Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto stated that PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk.’s plan to purchase 50 Boeing aircraft is still being negotiated. Garuda Indonesia and Boeing have not yet reached an agreement.

“Garuda’s aircraft are currently in business-to-business negotiations with Boeing. We will wait for further technical developments,” said Airlangga after attending a US tariff socialization session with business associations at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs office in Jakarta.

Garuda Indonesia plans to purchase 50 Boeing aircraft, most of which will be Boeing 777s, as part of the Indonesia-U.S. tariff agreement.

Airlangga explained that Garuda Indonesia has not yet signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the U.S. aircraft manufacturer.

“Yes, it’s still under negotiation. The MoU hasn’t been signed yet, nor has the one for Garuda Indonesia. The new ones are for energy and agriculture. They’re for soybeans, wheat, and so on,” he affirmed.

He added that but we’ve explored collaboration, and there will be an agreement. However, it’s still subject to business considerations.

Airlangga concluded that Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto stated the commitment to purchase Boeing aircraft is part of the government’s strategy to strengthen Garuda Indonesia as the national airline. [antaranews]
