EXPATRIATES AT GARUDA TO STRENGTHEN TECHNOLOGY & TRANSFORMATION: ROSAN

DANANTARA CEO and Minister of Investment, Rosan Roeslani said the appointment of two expatriates to the newest structural positions of PT Garuda Indonesia Tbk’s directors aims to strengthen transformation and technology.

“Yes, it is true that we have strengthened Garuda’s management. If we look more deeply, there are indeed two people who are foreign nationals who have been placed in BUMN for the first time because it is permitted in the law,” said Rosan at the Presidential Palace complex, Jakarta, Friday (10/17), 2025.

He said this in response to a number of criticisms regarding the appointment of Balagopal Kunduvara and Neil Raymond Mills to Garuda’s board of directors. The decision was part of efforts to strengthen management and comprehensive transformation within the aviation state-owned enterprise.

“This step will actually strengthen the Garuda Indonesia team, considering that the two expatriates recruited have long experience in the global aviation industry. Because this expatriate has 25 years of experience at Singapore Airlines. Then, the other one also has experience on various international flights, so it is important for the transformation,” he said.

Rosan added that one of the expatriates was also trusted to lead the technology and transformation sector at Garuda. “So, if you look at it as a whole, we think this is a very good step,” he said.

As a state investment management institution, Danantara is said to continue to carry out further analysis of Garuda’s performance and strategy.

“We will provide further funding. So, we will also ensure that with the funding provided next, how the implementation and use of these funds will be carried out according to what was planned,” Rosan affirmed.

Regarding the working period of the two expatriates, Rosan stated that all mechanisms would follow the provisions of the applicable laws.

Garuda Indonesia officially reshuffled its board of directors and commissioners through an extraordinary general meeting of shareholders (EGMS) which was held on Wednesday (15/10).

In the decision of the meeting, shareholders approved the change of position of President Director from Wamildan Tsani to Glenny H. Kairupan, who previously served as Commissioner of Garuda Indonesia. [antaranew]
