THE MINISTRY of Creative Economy emphasized the government’s commitment to pushing Indonesian fashion towards the global market with sustainable and digital fashion strategies. This commitment was conveyed at the peak of Jakarta Fashion Week (JFW) 2026, which was considered to be a good momentum to strengthen networking and collaboration across ASEAN countries.
According to the Minister of Creative Economy, Teuku Riefky Harsya, recently said Jakarta Fashion Week was an important momentum to strengthen networks between countries, open up opportunities for cross-cultural collaboration, and emphasize commitment to sustainable and digital fashion as the future of the modern industry.
Minister Riefky was present with the Governor of Jakarta, Pramono Anung, at JFW 2026 in the ASEAN Fashion Parade session. The Minister of Creative Economy appreciated this celebration of creativity which combines to build an Indonesian fashion ecosystem that is sustainable and globally competitive.
JFW 2026 is a celebration of the 18th long journey which emphasizes Jakarta’s potential as a fashion barometer in the Southeast Asia region. This condition is in line with data from the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) 2024-2025 which states that the realized value of fashion investment reached 9.43% and the value of fashion exports in semester 1 of 2025 reached US$7 million.
“We are proud and appreciate Jakarta Fashion Week, which is a very popular Intellectual Property (IP) event and promotes collaboration between ASEAN countries,” he said.
The creative economy has become a new engine of national economic growth where investment figures, exports, employment and contribution to GDP have grown significantly. The fashion subsector is one of the leading creative economy subsectors whose creative trends continue to develop and are relevant to suit global tastes.
“The government will continue to be committed to strengthening the national fashion ecosystem through facilitating training, financing, and promoting global exports. Let’s make Jakarta Fashion Week 2026 a space for inspiration and proof that fashion is not just a lifestyle, but can be an economic force and creative identity rooted in national culture. Thank you for your support in making the creative economy the new engine of growth,” he affirmed.
In line with this statement, the Governor of Jakarta said that the fashion industry is one of 17 creative economy subsectors that contribute greatly to the Jakarta regional economy. The fashion industry recorded added value growth of 7.30%, which shows the potential and driver of economic growth in 2024. This year, Jakarta’s economic growth reached 5.18 percent and Jakarta’s contribution to national GDP was 16.61%.
“The growth of the fashion subsector in Jakarta is supported by broad market access and high purchasing power as well as people’s preferences for creative products. With the existence of various shopping centers and markets, Jakarta provides great opportunities for fashion industry activists to reach consumers,” Pramono Anung stated.
Jakarta as a city with cultural dynamics and creativity that continues to develop emphasizes its role as the Fashion Hub of South East Asia. Jakarta is a city that is not only a center of inspiration, but also filled with a modern lifestyle that provides space for ideas, designs and innovations from various highly creative generations.
“We believe that Jakarta Fashion Week is not only a space to celebrate the creativity of great designers, but also creates an impactful economic multiplier effect. Let’s continue to synergize, work, collaborate and innovate to make Jakarta a center for creativity and cultural exchange in Southeast Asia with the enthusiasm to welcome Jakarta’s 5th century in 2027,” added Pramono Anung.
JFW 2026, which was held on 27 October-2 November 2025, carried the theme “Legacy of Style”. The ASEAN Fashion Parade session featured collections from 3 leading designers from Singapore (Frederick Lee), the Philippines (Francis Libiran), and Malaysia (Rizman Ruzaini).
“The ASEAN Fashion Parade is more than just a fashion show, but is a shared stage where the collective legacy of innovation and creativity can attract the world’s attention. Fashion is the strongest expression of identity as a symbol of collaboration, unity and creative excellence throughout the ASEAN region. We celebrate JFW 2026 not only as a moment of style, but of diversity that keeps us united,” said Savida Alisjahbana as Chairwoman of Jakarta Fashion Week.
Each collection displayed at the ASEAN Fashion Parade brings a unique cultural interpretation and fashion innovation that reflects the diversity of the Asian region. The appearance of the work of designers from ASEAN introduces culture while strengthening friendly relations between countries in ASEAN. [traveltext.id]
