I ENCOURAGE STRENGTHENING OF SUSTAINABLE TOURISM PROGRAMS: GIBRAN

THE INDONESIAN tourism sector continues to demonstrate its strategic role as a driver of the national economy. By 2025, tourism’s contribution to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is estimated to reach 4.9%, exceeding the initial target.

As we approach 2026, Vice President Gibran Rakabuming, while chairing the 2026 National Tourism Coordination Meeting at the Soesilo Soedarman Hall, Sapta Pesona Building, Ministry of Tourism, Jakarta, on Monday (01/12), 2026 emphasized the importance of maintaining consistency and strengthening the sustainability of tourism programs to ensure this positive trend continues to grow.

“If what has been done in 2025 is maintained and improved, I am confident that this [2026] target can be achieved,” said Gibran.

In line with President Prabowo Subianto’s direction, Gibran encouraged strengthening the positive achievements of the tourism sector through improving destination quality, strengthening competitiveness, and sustainable cross-sector collaboration.

At the forum, Gibran expressed his appreciation for the performance of relevant ministries and institutions, which successfully exceeded various tourism sector targets throughout 2025, from the number of tourists to their contribution to GDP.

“So, regarding the number of foreign tourists, foreign exchange spending, the number of domestic tourists, the workforce, and the contribution to GDP (Gross Domestic Product), I think this is quite good, and I see the figures exceeding the targets,” he stated.

As Chair of the Tourism Coordination Team, Gibran emphasized several key focuses for national tourism development, including strengthening infrastructure, improving access and safety of tourist transportation, improving visa policies, and strengthening coordination with local governments to maintain the quality of tourist destinations.

Ahead of Eid al-Fitr 2026, Gibran also asked all stakeholders to make early preparations, including improving destinations and enhancing tourist comfort. “More thorough preparation also relates to infrastructure improvements at tourist destinations,” Gibran added.

Closing the national coordination meeting, Gibran emphasized the importance of strengthening synergy and collaboration between ministries and institutions. To become more solid, synergy and collaborative work like this must be strengthened. [traveltext.id/photo special]
