DPR MEMBER: WFA POLICY PRESENTS OPPORTUNITY IN INCREASE TOURISM

MEMBER of Commission VII (DPR RI), Siti Mukaromah stated that the implementation of the “work from anywhere” or Work From Anywhere (WFA) policy before and after Idul Fitri 2026 for state civil servants and private workers presents an opportunity to increase tourism.

“The policy of implementing WFA before and after Eid al-Fitr for ASN and private workers is an opportunity to move the tourism ecosystem,” said Siti in a press statement in Jakarta on Saturday (02/14), 2026.

In order to anticipate an increase in tourist visits during the Eid al-Fitr holiday, according to him, tourism business actors can start preparing themselves by organizing micro, small and medium enterprise (MSME) activities around tourist locations and local transportation services.

She added that the role of local residents in managing tourism supporting facilities such as parking lots at tourist sites, hotels and restaurants could also be optimized. The need to shift tourism development targets in accordance with the mandate of Law Number 18 of 2025 concerning Tourism.

“With the passing of the Tourism Law, we have to start shifting the target for the number of tourists coming or the number of visits to the target for economic sectors that move up with these visits,” she affirmed.

Instead of trying to bring in as many tourists as possible, Siti said, the government should focus on providing quality tourism to attract tourists to stay longer and spend more. That quality tourism has a bigger impact on the community’s economy.

Meanwhile, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto previously said that the WFA policy would be implemented before and after Idul Fitri 2026, March 16 and 17 and March 25, 26 and 27. Because Idul Fitri is close to Nyepi, workers have the opportunity to enjoy holidays from 18 to 24 March 2026.

Siti advised local governments to pay attention to the preparations of tourist attraction managers in their area to face the potential for increased tourist visits during the Eid holiday.

Regional governments need to encourage managers of tourist attractions in their regions to implement sustainable tourism businesses and prioritize visitor safety and comfort.

In this case, local governments need to ensure the availability of facilities such as rubbish bins, clean toilets, warnings about vulnerable and dangerous locations, facilities for people with disabilities, as well as facilities for visitors bringing children and breastfeeding.
