2026 HOMECOMING TRAVEL TRENDS EXPERIENCE SIGNIFICANT CHANGES

TIKET.COM revealed that homecoming travel trends in 2026 have undergone significant changes, both in terms of ticket booking times and the modes of transportation used.

According to Andi Hendrawan, Director of Transportation at tiket.com at a press conference in Jakarta on Monday (02/23), 2026 said so, there’s a significant change in our community’s trends regarding homecoming, because homecoming isn’t just about returning to one’s hometown. Sometimes, people also use this period to vacation.

“Citing the results of a YouGov Indonesia survey that in 2025, 38% of people were observed still frequently booking transportation tickets for homecoming travel one week before departure. The average homecoming travel period was two to six days before Eid al-Fitr,” Andi stated.

This contrasts with 2026, where, according to tiket.com’s monitoring, the trend of airline ticket bookings ahead of the Eid al-Fitr holiday increased from the first week of January to the second week of February.

“Airline ticket bookings have increased by around 50%, while train ticket bookings have increased by 56%. During the homecoming period, several areas are predicted to be crowded with travelers, such as Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Medan, and Pekanbaru,” said Andi.

Meanwhile, Bali is a favorite destination for entertainment for air travelers. For train routes, the most popular areas are Yogyakarta, Semarang, Cirebon, and Surabaya.

According to him, one factor contributing to the high public enthusiasm for this year’s Eid homecoming is the government’s incentives, both in terms of taxes and efforts to lower ticket prices.

“Compared to previous years, prices are certainly relatively cheaper. We can see this price stimulus, with the increase in transactions since its announcement. Transactions for the Eid period, and travel dates for the Eid period, have increased significantly, almost doubling compared to the previous period,” he concluded. [antaranews/photo special]
