THE INDONESIAN Ministry of Tourism is gearing its 2027 Work Plan and Budget toward maximizing the tourism sector’s impact on the national economy while ensuring that the benefits of tourism development are increasingly felt by communities across various regions.
Minister of Tourism Widiyanti Putri Wardhana conveyed this during a working meeting with Commission VII of the House of Representatives (DPR RI). The meeting, which discussed the 2027 Work Plan and Budget for the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of MSMEs, was chaired by Commission VII leader Evita Nursanty of the PDIP faction.
“Budget discussions are not merely about the total amount of funds, but about how every rupiah of state money is translated into well-targeted work programs, executed accountably, and jointly overseen to deliver maximum benefits to the public,” said Minister Widiyanti.
For 2027, the Ministry of Tourism has been allocated a budget ceiling of IDR1,509,057,247,000—or approximately IDR1.51 trillion. This budget is directed toward achieving key performance indicators and addressing various strategic issues in tourism development.
In the 2027 draft budget, the Ministry of Tourism maintains program continuity while strengthening areas that directly impact the community. The allocation for the Deputy for Destinations and Infrastructure increased from IDR39.43 billion to IDR48.54 billion, while the allocation for the Deputy for Industry and Investment rose from IDR21.69 billion to IDR26.33 billion. The budget for Co-Administration Tasks (Tugas Pembantuan) also increased from IDR17.86 billion to IDR 19.76 billion to support equitable tourism development across all provinces.
Flagship programs for 2027 include Enhancing Tourism Safety, Tourism Villages, Quality Tourism, “Event by Indonesia,” and Tourism 5.0. Regarding destinations, government support for enhancing amenities and accessibility is targeted to increase from 92 units in 2026 to 150 units in 2027, while tourism safety improvement programs will be implemented across 24 locations.
Digitalization efforts are also being strengthened through the development of SISPARNAS and JADESTA, targeting the inclusion of data and information on over 6,300 tourism villages in JADESTA and the provision of tourism attraction data across 38 provinces via SISPARNAS.
These policy directions are expected to further bolster tourism’s contribution to the national economy. By 2027, targets include 17.6–19.1 million international tourist visits, 1.28 billion domestic tourist trips, IDR71 trillion in tourism investment, and tourism foreign exchange earnings of US$25.5–28.6 billion.
As a baseline, in the first half of 2026, the tourism sector recorded 7.45 million international tourist visits, US$8.43 billion in foreign exchange earnings, 0.63 billion domestic tourist trips, and IDR39.68 trillion in tourism investment.
