THE SUPER Air Jet airline officially operates at Husein Sastranegara Airport, Bandung City, Friday (9/18), 2026. Previously, Garuda Indonesia and Citilink airlines operated last August for the Medan-Bandung-Denpasar route.
Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan assesses that the presence of the Super Jet Air airline flying at Husein Sastranegara Airport is proof that flight activity is increasing. He said this was also a sign that the city of Bandung was the center of air connectivity in Indonesia.
“A month after the inauguration of flights by Garuda and Citilink, today the inauguration of flights by Super Air Jet at Husein Airport. Thank God, this means increasing the number of flights and the number of passengers,” he said.
He explained that the increasing number of flights had an impact on the increase in passengers. Farhan said the average number of passengers per day was 1,000 people, increasing to 2,000 people per day.
Farhan stated that the Bandung City Government together with Husein Sastranegara Air Base and Angkasa Pura continue to be committed to improving the quality of infrastructure, facilities and supporting infrastructure so that airport operations are more optimal. Apart from that, Bandung’s strategic position allows this city to be a connecting point for travel from Sumatra Island to Bali, Kalimantan and Sulawesi.
“Bandung is one of the most enjoyable transit options. The costs are not expensive, the process is fast because the airport is relatively small, so it is very comfortable for passengers,” he added.
Farhan gave the example of the first Super Air Jet flight from Medan which carried around 170 passengers. A total of 130 passengers disembarked in Bandung, while around 40 passengers continued their journey to Denpasar.
This condition, according to Farhan, shows Bandung’s potential as a transit hub that can have an economic impact on various sectors, ranging from hospitality services, culinary, trade to tourism.
Farhan added, apart from tourism and business, the education sector is one of the main reasons many people come to Bandung.
