BP BUMN TARGETS MOTOGP TO BOOST MANDALIKA AS A SPORT TOURISM DESTINATION

Dony Oskaria, Head of the BP BUMN and COO of Danantara, aims for the Indonesian MotoGP Grand Prix to strengthen the position of Mandalika, West Nusa Tenggara, as a sport tourism destination.

“We have observed that, over the past five years, MotoGP has influenced our tourism and the industry in Mandalika. Many people are coming,” Dony said in an official statement confirmed by antaranews in Jakarta on Thursday (10/08), 2026.

Public enthusiasm for the 2026 Indonesian MotoGP Grand Prix continues to rise. Ticket sales for the 2026 Mandalika MotoGP have reached approximately 90 percent ahead of the race, scheduled for October 9–11, 2026, at the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara.

The BP BUMN (SOE Body) and Danantara, alongside the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu), Dorna, and InJourney, are continuing to strengthen their synergy leading up to the 2026 Mandalika MotoGP.

This collaboration aims to ensure that the international motorcycle racing event delivers an increasingly broad impact on national tourism and the economy.

He noted that the high volume of ticket sales aligns with Dorna’s view of Indonesia as one of the largest MotoGP markets in the region, driven by a large population and a strong fan base.

In line with this perspective, Dony stated that hosting MotoGP over the last five years has impacted tourism and industrial development in Mandalika. The presence of this international sporting event has encouraged a growing number of tourists to visit the area.

This development is also evident in the changing activity and ecosystem within Mandalika. According to Dony, the area is now supported by an increasing number of restaurants, hotels, and international flight connections.

“We can see the results; traffic in Mandalika has changed over the last five years. There are many restaurants, hotels, and international flights,” Dony said.

With rising spectator interest and the growth of the surrounding tourism ecosystem, the Mandalika MotoGP is expected not only to serve as an international racing event but also to further strengthen Mandalika’s position as a world-class sports tourism destination and an economic driver for West Nusa Tenggara.
