JFW 2026: FROM INDONESIAN HERITAGE TEXTILES TO THE GLOBAL MARKET

TWO LOCAL brands, curated through the Ministry of Creative Economy’s “Akselerasi Ekspor Kreasi Indonesia” (ASIK)—or Indonesian Creative Export Acceleration—program, were featured at the “Dewi’s Luxe Market” pop-up store, part of Jakarta Fashion Week (JFW) 2027. This golden opportunity was fully embraced by the two brands, which hail from Pasuruan (East Java) and Bandung (West Java).

KaIND, from Pasuruan, and Rengganis, from Bandung, were showcased during this edition of JFW, themed “City of New Lights.” Melie Indarto, founder of KaIND, noted that this opportunity went beyond merely presenting work on a fashion stage; it served as a platform to introduce Indonesia’s rich textile heritage, innovations in natural fiber-based materials, and the craftsmanship of local artisans to a broader industrial ecosystem.

“KaIND’s participation through the ASIK program at Jakarta Fashion Week 2027 is a positive step toward opening wider access and opportunities for local brands to grow. For us, a brand is measured not only by how widely its work is recognized, but also by the impact it creates within its supply chain ecosystem,” Melie explained.

Meanwhile, Rengganis focuses on contemporary ready-to-wear fashion deeply rooted in Indonesian cultural heritage. Founded by Riri Rengganis in 2008, the brand began its journey by modernizing the kebaya—a traditional Indonesian garment—under the label “Indische.”

Echoing Melie’s sentiments, Riri Rengganis remarked that being part of JFW provided an invaluable opportunity. The extended duration of the event allowed for direct interaction with other brands and consumers alike.

“I feel that the support from the Ministry of Creative Economy has been continuous. Since I first joined the ASIK program last year, the support didn’t just end after the training sessions. I am especially grateful to be here now at ‘Dewi’s Luxe Market’ at JFW 2027, held at PIM3—this is my first time participating in an event in this area,” said Riri.

Meanwhile Irene Umar, Deputy Minister of Creative Economy, who attended the event in person, noted that the participation of these two brands provides an opportunity to introduce their products to a wider audience and strengthens their readiness to expand into new markets.

“The participation of ASIK-supported brands in Jakarta Fashion Week 2027 is a significant step toward increasing exposure for local fashion creations while enhancing their competitiveness in both national and international markets. Through this collaboration with JFW, the Ministry of Creative Economy encourages local brands not only to showcase their work but also to build networks with industry players, unlock collaborative opportunities, and broaden market access,” Irene affirmed.

Now in its 18th edition, this annual fashion event features 111 designers showcasing a diverse range of styles, explorations of local craftsmanship, and traditional Indonesian textiles (wastra). JFW serves as a platform for the Indonesian fashion industry to demonstrate its creativity and extend its reach into the international market.

“The ‘house’ that Jakarta Fashion Week has built is extraordinary. The location is stunning, the stage design is excellent, and the level of professionalism is top-tier—it truly meets international standards. I am confident that as more people become familiar with it—not just Indonesians, but also international visitors—they will flock here. Jakarta Fashion Week is ready to compete with Paris Fashion Week,” concluded Irene. [traveltext.id]
