STATE airport operator PT Angkasa Pura I (AP I) served 4.6 million passengers during the Christmas 2018 and New Year 2019 holidays.
According to Angkasa Pura I President Director Faik Fahmi said the figure was based on the number of passengers at 13 airports under the management of PT Angkasa Pura I from Dec 20, 2018, to Jan 6, 2019. The figure fell 7.8 percent from 4.97 million in the same period a year earlier.
“During the holidays, I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali served 1.24 million passengers, contributing the highest number of flights among the 13 airports. The figure represented a 18.5 percent increase compared to the previous period, when it was recorded at 1.04 million,” he said.
Faik Fahmi also mentioned that the number of passengers at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport peaked on Dec 22, 2018, when a total of 74,611 passengers arrived at and departed from the airport by 484 flights.
“Bali remains a favorite destination for both domestic and foreign tourists for a vacation during Christmas and New Year holidays. Therefore, traffic at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Aiport remains high,” Fahmi remarked.
However, several airports under the management of PT Angkasa Pura I witnessed a decline in the number of passengers due to the operation of new sections of Trans-Java toll road and the higher air tickets.[antaranews/photo special]
