INCREASE MUTUAL TOURISM, ASEAN NOW OFFICIALLY HAS A NEW WEBSITE

SOUTHEAST Asian countries (ASEAN) now officially have tourism pages that have been updated and are expected to be a trusted source in providing information and recommendations for tourism in the region.

According to Dato Seri Setia Haji Ali bin Apong, Chair of the ASEAN Tourism Ministerial Meeting and Chair of the ASEAN Tourism Forum Steering Board 2020 in Bandar Seri Begawan, said now that as we begin online, the ASEAN Tourism Website is expected to be a trusted online source capturing Southeast Asian interests as a region to enjoy culture and natural way of life to meet increasing demand.

“The page, which can be accessed via https://www.aseantourism.travel/, has a new look, which is more user friendly. The tourism industry in ASEAN has continued to experience growth in the past decade and continues to be a contributor to the socio-economic development in the region, “said Dato Seri Setia Haji Ali.

He also considered that the increase in tourist visits had provided an opportunity to move investment and open employment. But on the other hand, the increase in tourist visits is not directly proportional to the provision of capacity to facilities and services.

The launch of the new ASEAN Tourism page will be held simultaneously with the opening ceremony of the ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) 2020 conducted by the Crown Prince of Brunei Darussalam and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, Haji Al-Muhtadeen Billah ibni Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaullah. The ATF 2020 series will be held on January 12-16, 2020.

ATF is a regional cooperative effort to promote ASEAN as a tourist destination. Besides Indonesia, nine other countries were also present, namely Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

In addition to the ministerial-level meeting, there was also TRAVEX which exhibited ASEAN tourism destinations, products and services which were held on January 14-16, 2020.

From Indonesia, Deputy Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Angela Tanoesoedibjo also attended the opening of the ATF 2020 and will attend the Ministerial Meeting. [antaranew/photo special]
