PRESIDENT JOKOWI STRESSED THAT LOCAL GOVTS MUST NOT TAKE ‘LOCKDOWN’ POLICY

PRESIDENT Joko Widodo (Jokowi) stressed that local governments should not take a “lockdown” policy because the policy is the authority of the central government.

“I need to emphasize, first, that the ‘lockdown’ policy, both at the national and regional levels is the policy of the central government,” President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said at a press conference held at the Presidential Palace in Bogor, West Java.

According to President Jokowi, all policies, both central and regional government policies, will and must be examined in depth.

That, he said, was none other than to be effective in solving problems and not making matters worse.

“This policy cannot be taken by the regional government. Until now, there has been no thought in the ‘lockdown’ policy,” he said.

President Jokowi said that he kept abreast of developments in the situation related to COVID-19 from time to time, and gave measurable orders, so that all parties could inhibit the spread of COVID-19. Without having to exacerbate the economic impact that can complicate people’s lives.

“Right now, the most important thing that needs to be done is how we reduce the mobility of people from one place to another, maintain distance, and reduce the crowd of people who carry a greater risk on the spread of COVID-19,” he noted.

According to him, the policy of learning from home, working from home, and worshiping at home needs to be continuously intensified to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

“This is by maintaining services to the community, whether it is a matter of basic needs, health services or other public services,” President Jokowi concluded. [antaranews]
