IN THE MIDST OF PANDEMIC, VW LAUNCHED THE EIGHT-GENERATION GOLF GTI

IN the midst of a corona pandemic, Volkswagen launched its new eight generation VW Golf GTI model which was claimed to be more digital, sharp, and easier to maneuver than before.

The new Golf GTI is equipped with a turbo engine that produces a maximum power of 180 kW (245 PS). The new Vehicle Dynamics Manager intelligently manages electromechanical running gear systems.

According to Karsten Schebsdat, Head of Driving Dynamics, Steering and Control Systems said vehicle Dynamics Manager makes the VW Golf GTI has a perfect front wheel drive system. This higher level control system centrally coordinates all functions of the gear that runs electromechanically.

“Thanks to the combination of the new running gear arrangement, plus the front-axle locking differential and Vehicle Dynamics Manager, we can improve the overall performance of the Golf GTI to a higher level,” he said, quoted from the VW website.

Meanwhile Klaus Bischoff, Head of the Design Department of the Volkswagen Group explained that this Golf GTI design combines superior and sporty character and functionality. The new Golf GTI offers a very low visual center of gravity that we achieved through wide front air intakes and striking shoulder lines.

“The standard LED lights are set low down. This is optionally available as IQ.LIGHT – LED matrix headlights. The headlamps form a striking beam along with the radiator grille. The typical red GTI line at the top of the bonnet runs across the front,” he noted.

For the first time, the radiator grille can be illuminated with a thin LED strip that extends to the LED daytime running lights front modules on the right and left.

The new Golf GTI is equipped with a standard 17-inch Richmond alloy wheels that perfectly matches the vehicle body design. At the rear, the GTI roof spoiler that extends significantly towards the rear increases power in the rear axle.

Below, the sporty diffuser distinguishes the new edition of this icon from other versions of the product line with smaller engines. In accordance with GTI tradition, the new exhaust system has one exhaust tip each on the left and right.

Volkswagen brings back the classic interior design of the first edition Golf GTI 1976 to this latest generation, by adding digital capabilities.

GTI Golf no longer has a ignition key, and has been replaced by the Start/Stop Engine button as standard. As a completely new feature, after the door is opened, the button is red until the GTI engine is turned on.

The sport steering wheel in the past has been changed to a new leather-wrapped multi-function sport steering wheel with touch controls and an optional Travel Assist button to help Golf GTI reach a top speed of 210 km/h when Travel Assist is activated.

The entertainment system is supported by an 8.25-inch screen, installed in this vehicle as standard, while the Discover Pro 10-inch system is available as an optional addition to the most sophisticated expansion packages.

Apart from the existing infotainment system above GTI Golf, the combination of visual and functional systems creates a new and consistent digital architecture. Background lighting, which comes as standard, baths the screen and many other interior areas which are illuminated in a configurable 30 color spectrum. [antaranews]
