INDONESIA PROPOSES FIVE COOPERATION TO STRENGTHEN TOURISM IN ASEAN

INDONESIA through the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy proposes 5 regional cooperation commitments in the response to COVID-19 in the tourism sector through the 52nd ASEAN NTOs Meeting and Related Meetings which will be held on 15, 21 and 28 September 2020.

According to the Director of Inter-institutional Relations of the Ministry of Tourism, K. Candra Negara representing the Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy/Main Secretary of the Tourism and Creative Economy Agency Ni Wayan Giri Adnyani who in the opening of the 52nd ASEAN National Tourism Organizations (NTOs) and Related Meetings explained, a series of meetings This shows the commitment of ASEAN member countries to continue to strengthen regional cooperation, especially in dealing with the impact of COVID-19 in the ASEAN region.

“There are five points that we propose in dealing with the impact of COVID-19. The first is that Indonesia proposes the elimination of the ASEAN Single Aviation Market (ASAM) or the single aviation market,” he said.

Candra Negara explained, ASAM is an open sky agreement that aims to improve domestic connectivity and the ASEAN region through the integration of production networks and service liberalization. Later, airlines from ASEAN member countries can fly freely within the ASEAN region.

The event was also attended by the heads of NTOs from ASEAN member countries, as well as ASEAN partner countries that are members of ASEAN +3 and ASEAN +1. Candra explained the second point proposed regarding Cambodia asking that their chairmanship be extended until 2022.

This will affect Indonesia’s position in ASEAN chairmanship in 2022. Therefore, Indonesia will convey several win-win solutions to Cambodia so that the ASEAN Chairmanship in 2022 will still belong to Indonesia.

“Third, Indonesia proposes that the Progress of Draft Protocol to Amend the MRA-TP (Mutual Recognition Agreement on Tourism Professional) or an arrangement between ASEAN countries designed to facilitate the free movement of qualified and certified workers between ASEAN member countries will be implemented immediately. At the previous NTOs meeting, several member countries,” he noted.

Fourth, continued Candra, related to the discussion of HCA (Host Country Agreement) at the Regional Secretariat for the Implementation of MRA-TP. This HCA is an important component in establishing the legal basis and income standards for the establishment of a Regional Secretariat.

Fifth, Indonesia supports the Development of ASEAN Framework to Facilitate the Tourist Travel Bubble Schemes initiative. Therefore, Indonesia continues to strive to reduce the growth rate of COVID-19 so that it can generate trust from other countries when discussing the possibility of a travel bubble cooperation in the future.

In the meeting, there were several things that became the agenda for discussion at this series of meetings, including the 2016-2025 Mid-Term Review of the ASEAN Tourism Strategic Plan (ATSP), the ASEAN Tourism Marketing Strategy (ATMS) 2017-2020, the ASEAN Tourism Professional Monitoring Committee (ATPMC). ).
