WISHNUTAMA: UNWTO APPRECIATES OF HEALTH PROTOCOL IN INDONESIA

INDONESIA’S Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Wishnutama Kusubandio said the implementation of health protocols related to handling COVID-19 in Indonesia received appreciation from the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).

“Prevoiusly UNWTO officials came to Bali as the first country they visited. Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi and I held a meeting with the United Nations Tourism Board,” said Minister Wishnutama on the sidelines of handing over the CHSE Certificate in Kuta, Bali.

He explained in the meeting with the UN Tourism Board, he discussed the steps that the Indonesian Government has taken in handling the COVID-19 pandemic, especially in the tourism sector.

“They even appreciate the steps the Indonesian government has taken in handling COVID-19, including the implementation of health protocols,” he said.

But when asked about the opening of the tourism sector in Bali, Wisnhutama said the Ministry of Tourism had coordinated with Bali Governor Wayan Koster regarding tourist visits in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We must improve health protocols, namely Cleanliness, Health, Safety and Environmental Sustainability (CHSE) in a strict manner in welcoming tourist visits this year-end holiday. This implementation is carried out by all elements of society, both tourism actors and at tourist facilities. to tourists to increase their awareness of health protocols,” he noted.

Furthermore, Wisnhutama said that this visit to a number of tourism facilities in Bali was to know more closely the readiness to welcome domestic tourists visiting the Island of the Gods.

“Because domestic tourists will definitely fill their holidays to come to Bali. Even though their leave or vacation for this year is shorter. But I am sure they will definitely vacation in Bali even in the midst of a pandemic. Therefore, tourism actors in Bali must strictly implement health protocols. This step is also a trial and evaluation to open up tourism in the future, “he said.

He added, do not because tourists visiting Bali on vacation to Bali actually cause an increase in positivity or exposure to COVID-19. Therefore, the implementation of the CHSE must be even more stringent. After that, we will do further evaluation related to the opening of a wider tourism sector. [antaranews/photo special]
