SANDIAGA UNO APPOINTED AS TOURISM MINISTER TO REPLACE WISHNUTAMA

ENTREPRENEUR and politician from the Gerindra Party, Sandiaga Uno, was appointed by President Joko Widodo to take up the position of Minister of Tourism to replace Wishnutama Kusubandio.

Sandiaga Uno was present at the Veranda of Merdeka Palace in Jakarta, Monday afternoon, when President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) announced a cabinet reshuffle.

“I would like to introduce Mr. Sandiaga Salahudin Uno, he used to be the Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta and now we will give the responsibility to lead the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy,” said President Jokowi.

When the President announced the six figures who would occupy ministerial positions in his cabinet, he was accompanied by Vice President KH Ma’ruf Amin.

Sandiaga Uno, who was born in Rumbai Pekanbaru, Riau, on June 28, 1969, wore a white shirt and blue jacket like the other ministerial candidates. Prior to the appointment, his name has been circulating on the stock exchange to occupy that position.

Even Sandiaga’s spokesperson, Kawendra Lukistian, had said that anyone who occupies a Ministry of Tourism & Creative Economy post faces a very tough challenge amid the pandemic. Now Sandiaga, who will be sworn in tomorrow, will replace Wishnutama Kusubandio and must solve various problems that befall the tourism sector and the creative economy.

Sandiaga, who graduated from Wichita State University, will lead the Ministry of Tourism to reduce the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the tourism sector and the creative economy which has been significantly affected by the pandemic. [antaranews/photo special]
