Indonesia Among Top 10 Destinations for Chinese Tourists in 2017

INDONESIA has cracked the top 10 list of most-visited country destinations by Chinese tourists in 2017, according to data released by the China Tourism Academy and digital travel services provider Ctrip.

Indonesia was ranked fifth, below Thailand, Japan, Singapore and Vietnam. The countries ranked six through 10 are Malaysia, the Philippines, the United States, South Korea and the Maldives.

More than 130 million Chinese tourists reportedly made trips around the world last year, making them the biggest source of tourism for several countries. Indonesia welcomed around two million of them, falling short of its target of 2.5 million.

The closure of I Gusti Ngurai Rai International Airport in Bali due to the Mount Agung eruption is said to be the main reason behind the missed target.

Chinese visitors reportedly spent 115.29 billion yuan (US$18.21 billion) last year while traveling abroad. [photo special]
