TOURISM and Culture Office of West Manggarai Regency on the western part of Flores Island, East Nusa Tenggara is targeting local revenue from the tourism sector in 2020 to be Rp30 billion.
According to Head of West Manggarai Tourism and Culture Agustinus Rinus said the target was given because in 2019 the local revenue target of the regency specifically for the tourism sector was reached 100 percent.
“This year the achievement of the local revenue target for the tourism sector reached Rp16 billion, surging 100 percent, because in 2018 the target provided was only Rp8 billion. In recent years the realization of the local revenue target in the tourism sector has always been rising, this is due to the positive impact of a number of tourists visiting the area,” he said.
Rinus is optimistic that the Rp30 billion target will be achieved because tourism in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai, is increasingly recognized by both domestic and foreign tourists. In addition, the development of the tourism sector in the city of Labuan Bajo emphasizes the concept of tourism based on nature and culture tourism.
Moreover, President Joko Widodo who visited Labuan Bajo some time ago also did not half-heartedly asked for the improvement of the city located on the western tip of the island of Flores in order to achieve premium class tourism.
Regarding the budget assistance from the regional government for the tourism sector in 2020, he concluded that there would be Rp14 billion in funds for revamping the tourist area.
“In the future, there will also be a special allocation for the 2020 APBD for the West Manggarai Tourism Office. The budget is used for physical development and enhancing human resources,” he said.
He explained that the special allocation fund was more for physical development such as the arrangement of destinations outside the Komodo National Park, the arrangement of eltari hills, the construction of the Seraya Maranu tourist pier and the arrangement of Manggrove destinations in Rangko.
While non-physical such as human resource training, creative economic development such as culinary, home industry, weaving, crafts, and fashion.
Meanwhile, general allocation funds will be used for festival activities such as the Komodo Festival in Labuan Bajo, Cunca Wulang in Cunca Wulang Village, and motor boat racing festivals in Seraya Maranu Village, village tourism exploration, and tourism promotion in Jakarta and Bali.
