COFFEE enthusiasts in London may continue to increase, at least shown a surge of up to 700 percent of independent coffee shops on the city’s highways since 2010, according to industry research group Allegra.
The number of “quality independent” coffee shops has increased from around 50 in 2010 to more than 400 in 2020, Allegra said in a report.
Multinational chains such as Starbucks and Costa also experienced a 57 percent increase in the same period, with 2,195 franchises currently. Quality independent” coffee shops include “micro chain” brands such as Caravan, with six outlets in London, and Redemption Roasters, with nine outlets.
“Londoners are looking for a more perfect but still informal experience. The days at the seedy coffee shop are gone,” said Jeffrey Young, CEO of Allegra and founder of the London Coffee Festival scheduled for April.
Data from Allegra also shows that lattes are a favorite coffee in the British capital, with 51.4 percent of Londoners saying they usually choose one, said the British newspaper Evening Standard. [antaranews/photo special]
