THE residents of the traditional village of Wae Rebo in Manggarai Regency, Flores Island, maintain the authenticity of the traditional village as the main attraction of tourist destinations. The traditional village of Wae Rebo cannot be changed, it must be kept natural like this with its uniqueness.
According to the Governor of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Viktor Bungtilu Laiskodat, the uniqueness of the traditional village of Wae Rebo is currently a cultural rule and ancestral heritage so that it cannot be changed anymore.
“Cultural uniqueness that is still original like this is actually an attraction for tourists to foreign countries to visit. Kampung Wae Rebo is also one of the tourist destinations that are prepared to be visited by G-20 participants in 2023 which will be held in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai Regency,” he said.
Victor added, for that, his government is preparing to build road infrastructure from southern Labuan Bajo to the tourist location of Wae Rebo. If the tourist destination of Wae Rebo is growing rapidly with the number of tourist visits, the economic growth of residents in that area will be even faster.
“A lot of tourist visits will certainly have an impact on a tremendous jump in people’s economic income. We are very sure of that, so that the economic conditions of the people of Wae Rebo are no longer what they are today,” he concluded. [antaranews/photo special]
