WORK FROM BALI RAISES HOPE FOR THE ECONOMIC IMPROVEMENT

THE Work From Bali scheme is believed to be able to improve the economy on the Island of the Gods in Q2/2021 compared to Q1/2021 which reached minus 9.85%.

According to the Head of the Bank Indonesia Bali Representative Office Trisno Nugroho, the Work From Bali (WFB) scheme is expected to be able to restrain the contraction of the Balinese economy through accelerated domestic tourism based on Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, Exhibition (MICE). However, with a note, domestic tourist arrivals in June could be more than 10,000, so Q2/2021 could be better than the previous quarter.

“Hopefully the WFB will be intensified in June 2021 or the last month in Q2, so that it has an impact on increasing economic activity. Meanwhile, if the WFB runs, the multiplier effect on other business fields both in the tourism sector and in the tourism supporting sector is also quite large,” he said.

He explained, such as the Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) sector, transportation, event organizers, tourist destinations, souvenirs, and the tourism support sector, their activities would be encouraged. The government has designed this program and was carried out in 2002, which provides benefits to the local economy.

“WFB is one of the quality tourism which is also the target of Bali tourism reorientation after the pandemic. So that everyone must work together and collaborate to make this program a success, thus increasing confidence in Bali so that recovery will run faster,” Trisno Nugroho noted.

Based on the information he received, the WFB plan is being intensified by a number of related ministries and agencies. Like the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs & Investment which will coordinate the seven ministries. Then a number of State-Owned Enterprises have started doing WFB from yesterday, also today.

Furthermore, tourism industry players are ready for this WFB, because a number of hotels and tourism areas have obtained Cleanliness, Health, Safety and Environment Sustainability (CHSE) certificates. In addition, the COVID-19 vaccine program in Bali has also been above 30%, and the development of the cases is quite under control.

“Several events have also been held in Nusa Dua and several other places. I think in terms of readiness, Bali is ready to implement this WFB, especially since it has been 14 months since we have all experienced the impact of the pandemic,” he concluded. [bisnis.com/photo special]
