PRESIDENT JOKOWI: JABODEBEK LRT WILL START OPERATING IN JUNE 2022

PRESIDENT Joko Widodo (Jokowi) stated that the Light Rail Transit (LRT) Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Bekasi (Jabodebek) light rail trains will start operating in June 2022.

“We hope that in April 2022 the trial will begin, start the trial and we will start the operation in June 2022,” said President Jokowi at the Jakarta TMII LRT Station, Wednesday (6/9).

President Joko Widodo conveyed this after testing the Jabodebek LRT with the route from Harjamukti Station, Cibubur-Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) Station. On that occasion, President Jokowi was accompanied by Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi, Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, and other related officials.

“Why are we building this LRT? We want to build integrated mass transportation, MRT (mass rapid transit), LRT, airport trains, Transjakarta buses are all integrated. This integration, according to President Jokowi, will provide efficiency in mass transportation,” said the President.

He added that there is efficiency in people traveling from one point to another and we hope that once this is done we will move on to other points. The construction of the Jabodebek LRT has so far reached 84.7%. In stage 1, the Jabodebek LRT has three routes.

“First, the Cawang-Cibubur route is 14.8 kilometers long, which currently has 93.8% of construction. Second, the 11-kilometer Cawang-Dukuh Atas route, which currently reaches 84.3%. Third, the Cawang-East Bekasi route is 18.4 kilometers long, which currently reaches 90.9 percent,” said President Jokowi.

In addition to the three tracks, President Jokowi continued, the Jabodebek LRT depot, which is located in East Bekasi, is currently under construction, which has reached 44.1%. The Jabodebek LRT will have 18 stops. Under normal conditions, one LRT series can carry 740 passengers. In congested conditions carry 1,308 passengers with a maximum speed of 80 kilometers per hour.

Some of the advantages of LRT include, the travel time can be faster than private vehicles or buses. The Jabodebek LRT can cover the route from Bekasi Timur to Dukuh Atas in 45 minutes, while from Cibubur to Dukuh Atas it takes only 39 minutes. [antaranews/photo special]
