THE Indonesia’s Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, has encouraged tourism and creative economy centers during the Emergency Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) to become locations for COVID-19 vaccination centers, in order to help accelerate vaccine delivery to the Indonesian people.
He gave examples such as vaccinations held in Gunung Kidul Regency which is close to the beach and also a vaccination center at STP (Tourism High School) Bandung.
“I encourage tourist destinations and creative economy centers to also take inspiration from STP Bandung to propose its location as a vaccination center to help accelerate vaccine delivery for the community,” said Minister Sandiaga in a virtual Weekly Press Briefing, Monday (7/12).
He explained that in tourist areas such as Gunung Kidul, vaccination is considered not only beneficial for the community but also for health workers to get refreshment. The idea of vaccination in tourist destinations is something ‘beautiful and smart’, so I encourage other destinations such as the five super priority tourist sites, namely Labuan Bajo, Mandalika, Borobudur, Lake Toba, and Lukupang, to do the same.
“It is very smart and beautiful because it can use tourist destinations as vaccination centers. So, in addition to entertaining participants who received vaccinations with the beautiful scenery, but also the health workers can rest with the tourist facilities,” Sandiaga Uno stated.
By encouraging vaccination in the midst of an Emergency PPKM, it is hoped that the tourism sector and the creative economy can contribute to the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic to reduce the transmission rate of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which now has a Delta variant mutation.
Sandiaga also hopes that both actors in the tourism sector and in the creative economy can remain obedient to the 5M including avoiding crowds and reducing mobility so that Emergency PPKM can be finished quickly. [traveltext.id]
