GERMANY TIGHTENS FOR UNVACCINATED TRAVELERS FROM SPAIN & NETHERLANDS

GERMANY classifies Spain and the Netherlands as countries with a high incidence of coronavirus, meaning that unvaccinated travelers returning from those countries must be quarantined for at least five days.

Quoted from Reuters on Friday (7/23) said the move comes during the summer holidays from school in Germany, when many families vacation on Spain’s sunny Mediterranean coast or on the Netherlands’ North Sea coast.

Nearly half of Germans who have had two injections of the COVID-19 vaccine are exempt from quarantine. However, only about 2% of children under 18 are fully vaccinated. This condition has the potential to make traveling families dizzy.

Spain recorded a rapid rise in the number of cases diagnosed over the past few weeks. The number jumped fivefold between mid-June and mid-July.

Spain recorded 624 new cases per 100,000 people in the 14 days to the weekend while the Netherlands recorded 670 cases, according to the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control. That compares with 17 cases in Germany.

Germany’s quarantine requirements for travelers from high-incidence areas do not apply to travelers who have been exposed to COVID-19 in the past six months. Changes to the rules for Spain and the Netherlands take effect from Tuesday (7/27) next week. [antaranews/photo special]
