GLOBAL tire company Hankook Tire has equipped the BMW X3 M and X4 M with premium tires. This is the first time for BMW M GmbH cars. Hankook’s new Ventus S1 evo Z tires, adopted ex works, have been developed specifically for the UUHP (Ultra-Ultra-High-Performance) vehicle segment for high-performance sporty cars.
These Ventus S1 evo Z Hankook tires are available for both BMW M GmbH models with tires measuring 255/40 ZR21 102Y for the front and 265/40 ZR21 105Y for the rear which have been tailored to the specific needs of BMW M GmbH. These tires have a high level of grip and accurate lateral guidance for optimal handling, even in sporty conditions.
These advantages became the determining criterion in the approval process of this collaboration, where according to tradition, all M models had to perform a performance test at the legendary Nordschleife corner at the Nürburgring.
Ultra-Ultra-High-Performance is the name of the tire category introduced by Hankook this year with the launch of the Ventus S1 evo Z to the market. The first time for Hankook as a premium tire manufacturer, the BMW M GmbH models X3 M and X4 M will feature the new tread of Hankook tires.
The characteristics of the Hankook Ventus S1 evo Z confirm the motorsport DNA of the M model, namely high dynamics, agility and precision. With a maximum output of 510 hp and 650 Nm of torque, both models accelerate from 0 to 100 KM per hour in 3.8 seconds.
Further to field testing, the tire combination used in the 255/40 ZR21 102Y☆ at the front and 265/40 ZR21 105Y at the rear was also extensively tested at maximum speed at the legendary Nordschleife corner at the Nürburgring. This proves that the tire arrangement is strong enough and able to meet the needs of the M model at all times.
“We are delighted that the highly prestigious BMW M GmbH manufacturer from the sports car segment is using our products,” said Jeongho Park, Executive Vice President and Director of OE Division.
“Hankook Ventus S1 evo Z also uses a tread pattern with an asymmetrical design that is often seen on sporty vehicle treads. The tread block arrangement has been developed to ensure optimal block rigidity under various driving conditions. Three drainage grooves positioned within the site area will ensure water is efficiently drained when conditions are wet,” he said.
In addition, he continued, the outer area of the tire tread gets special attention, where the significantly increased tread proportion meets the needs of high-performance cornering and accurate lateral guidance, especially for a very sporty driving style in dry conditions. Other tires for the M GmbH models are also under development by Hankook.
“Hankook’s new Ventus S1 evo Z tires are now used as premium vehicle manufacturer original equipment and are available in 15 dimensions from 19 to 21 inches with a tread width of between 225 and 315 mm across categories from Series 30 to 45.
