INDONESIAN government has again decided to extend Implementation of Restrictions on Community Activities (PPKM) levels 4, 3 and 2 in the Java-Bali region on August 17-23 2021.
“Based on the evaluation carried out, under the direction of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, PPKM Levels 4, 3 and 2 in Java Bali will be extended until August 23, 2021,” said Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment as Coordinator of PPKM Java-Bali Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan in a virtual press conference, Monday (8/16) evening.
Minister Luhut explained that the extension of PPKM levels 4, 3, and 2, which was carried out from August 7-16, 2021 in Java-Bali, was considered to show better results. This can be seen from the trend of confirmed cases which on Sunday (15/8) fell to 76%.
“Last week I reported (down) 59%, now it’s at 76% (decrease) and active cases are down 53% from their peak point,” said Coordinating Minister Luhut.
Minister Luhut also explained that the number of recoveries had increased and the number of deaths had continued to decline. Similarly, the trend of positivity rate, confirmed case patient care, and mortality rate in almost all provinces in Java and Bali.
However, he continued the Deputy Chair of the Committee for Handling COVID-19 and National Economic Recovery (KPC PEN), based on the results of his field visits, there are still improvements that need to be made in several areas, including Malang Raya and Bali which I visited last week.
The government has taken intervention steps, including by mobilizing isoman patients to isolation centers (isoters) provided by the city/district government and ensuring the availability of drugs and oxygen concentrators.
“So, we hope that in the next week there will be significant improvements, especially for the area of Bali and Malang Raya. I think Bali has shown very good results so far because they have been able to provide almost 1,400 of our friends from isoman to isoter. Malang Raya also have made progress in this context,” Luhut remarked.
However, in the midst of this good progress, Coordinating Minister Luhut said that the mobility of the people in Java and Bali had mostly returned to normal conditions, even the same as before the increase in the Delta variant occurred. This indicates a significant increase in community mobility compared to the beginning of last July.
“On the one hand, this shows that the economy is recovering quickly, but there is a risk of an increase in cases in the next 2 to 3 weeks. So, we all have to be super careful in dealing with this and must follow the health protocols,” Luhut concluded. [antaranews]
