PRESIDENT: PPKM JAVA-BALI EXTENDED UNTIL SEPTEMBER 6, AREA LEVEL-3 INCREASED

PRESIDENT Joko Widodo announced the progress of handling the corona virus (COVID-19) in Indonesia. During the past week, there has been improvement in the implementation of Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM). The rate of positive case ratio and hospital bed occupancy has decreased.

Therefore, in the next week, namely August 31 to September 6, 2020, the government will make changes to the implementation of PPKM. In Java and Bali, there are two agglomeration areas whose PPKM levels were lowered from level 4 to level 3.

“In the Java-Bali region, there are additional agglomeration areas that enter level 3, namely Malang Raya and Solo Raya,” Jokowi said at a press conference, Monday (30/8).

Previously, there were areas of Greater Jakarta, Greater Bandung, Greater Surabaya, and Greater Semarang that implemented PPKM level 3. Even Semarang Raya currently has implemented PPKM level 2. In the Java-Bali region there are 25 districts/cities that implement PPKM level 4, as many as 76 districts /cities apply PPKM level 3, and 27 districts/cities apply PPKM level 2.

Meanwhile outside the Java-Bali region also experienced improvements. In total there are 85 districts/cities implementing PPKM level 4, 232 districts/cities implementing PPKM level 3, 68 districts/cities implementing PPKM level 2, and there is one district/city implementing PPKM level 1.

“The implementation of health protocols in several sectors has shown good results, for that the government has made some adjustments,” said Jokowi.

Despite showing an improving trend, Jokowi asked all parties to remain disciplined in implementing health protocols and participating in vaccination activities. So that efforts to suppress COVID-19 cases in Indonesia can continue. Based on data from the COVID-19 Handling Task Force, active cases in Indonesia have almost reached below 200,000 cases. As of today, there are 203,068 active cases.

Meanwhile, in the previous week, there were an average of 16,760 cases per day.

The number of deaths has also decreased significantly. If previously the death rate was always above 1,000 cases, currently the average death rate due to COVID-19 during the last PPKM was 753 cases per day. [antaranews]
