MOTOGP 2022 IN MANDALIKA IS THE DOOR TO INDONESIA’S TOURISM RECOVERY: INDEF

ECONOMIST of the Institute for Development of Economics and Finance (Indef) Eko Listiyanto assessed that the prestigious international MotoGP race event which will be held at Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit, Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), on March 20, 2022, can be an opening door for the recovery of the sector. Indonesian tourism.

“If we talk about the context of Indonesian tourism, this is actually one of the opening doors for the recovery of the national tourism sector which is very significant. I think the possibility of vaccination in Indonesia is much better when the MotoGP event in Mandalika is held in March 2022,” said Eko.

Eko also sees that there are many fans of the MotoGP race series, especially in Indonesia. This, can be a key factor, apart from Indonesia being seen as having a representative international circuit for a prestigious event like MotoGP.

“I think this is a good opportunity, firstly, the COVID-19 condition in the country is getting more under control. If there are no further spikes in cases in the future, the MotoGP event in Mandalika will be an important lever for the national tourism sector,” said Eko.

Previously, MotoGP on Thursday (10/7) released a provisional calendar for the 2022 racing season in which the Mandalika International Circuit, Lombok, will host the second series of races on March 20 after the opening series in Qatar on March 6.

With a track length of 4.3 km, the Mandalika Circuit will also have the honor of being a MotoGP pre-season test arena on 11-13 February 2022, one week after the first pre-season test in Sepang, Malaysia.
