INDONESIAN GOV’T DECIDES TO OPEN INT’L FLIGHTS AT NGURAH RAI AIRPORT, BALI

THE INDONESIAN government has decided to open international flights at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, Bali, starting October 14, 2021. Bali’s economic activity is re-opening, and this is important considering that the main source of people’s income comes from the tourism sector.

Approaching October 14, 2021, I ask all stakeholders in Bali to prepare well so that tourists come, but the COVID-19 remains under control.

During this pandemic, foreign tourists coming to Bali decreased by 97%, and domestic tourists decreased by 27%. Hotel room occupancy rate is below 20%.

The experiences of other countries in dealing with COVID-19 must be studied, including the importance of discipline in carrying out health protocols. From the experience of some countries, vaccination is very important. In a country with a high vaccination rate, when economic activity opens, the death rate is still low.

In Bali Province, as of October 8, 2021, vaccination has reached 98% for the first dose and more than 80% for the second dose. Seeing this situation, I am optimistic and we decided to open international flights to Bali. [setneg/photo special]
