PANDEMIC, UPPER-MIDDLE PRICES HOTELS ARE MORE ATTRACTIVE IN BALI: BI

BANK Indonesia (BI) analyzes those hotels with upper-middle prices are more attractive, allegedly due to the innovation of hotel promos. These hotels are more attractive to tourists who vacation in Bali during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the hotel room occupancy rate (HROR) for 3 to 5 stars reaches 9.98%, while HROR for 1 to 2 stars is only 8.99. Data from the Bali Hotels Association (BHA) shows that hotels with room rental rates between US$201 to US$300 have HROR of 30.3%.

Then followed by hotels with room rental rates of US$51 to US$200 having HROR 12.7%, hotels over US$301 having HROR 8.3%, and hotels with prices less than US$51 having HROR 7.3%. Bank Indonesia analyzes those hotels with upper-middle prices are more attractive, allegedly due to the innovation of hotel promos.

According to a tourism economic observer from Warmadewa University, I Made Suniastha Amerta, the declining purchasing power of the people in the midst of the pandemic has made people take advantage of promos. Currently, various hotels issue promos, including hotels with upper-middle room prices.

“In the midst of current conditions, in general, the purchasing power and buying interest of tourists for expensive hotel rooms tends to decline and they prefer hotels with upper-middle prices with promos,” he said.

Meanwhile, Chairperson of the DPD Indonesian Hotel General Manager Association (IHGMA) Bali Yoga Iswara assessed that, in the midst of a pandemic, hotels of interest are those that have implemented the Cleanliness, Health, Safety, Environment Sustainability (CHSE) health protocol. Tourists are actually considered to be more overriding the issue of price. Attitude to hygiene is non-negotiable, only the price factor is adjusted to the customer’s budget,” he concluded.
