THE CENTRAL Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded an increase in the number of foreign tourist arrivals in September 2021 to Indonesia by 126.51 thousand visits, an increase of 1.41% compared to August 2021 which reached 124.8 thousand visits.
“This shows that with the restrictions on visits to a country, including Indonesia, it appears that foreign tourist visits are still quite flat,” said BPS Head Margo Yuwono at a press conference in virtually in Jakarta, Monday (11/1).
Margo explained that although the number of foreign tourist visits in September 2021 has increased compared to August, year on year it has decreased by 15.08 percent compared to the number of visits in September 2020 of 149 thousand visits.
He continued, from January to September 2021, the number of foreign tourists visiting Indonesia reached 1.19 million visits, a decrease of 67.00% when compared to the number of foreign tourists visiting in the same period in 2020.
Meanwhile, BPS recorded that cumulatively or from January 2021 to September 2021, the number of foreign tourists visiting Indonesia was recorded at 1.19 million visits.
However, when compared to the same period the previous year which reached 3.59 million visits, this number decreased by 67.00% yoy.
Margo said this was a special concern because foreign tourist visits would affect various important indicators related to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) or economic growth, considering that the tourism sector includes many sub-sectors.
“Of course, this tourism activity has a big impact on economic conditions in Indonesia,” he concluded. [antaranews/photo special]
