SPOKEPERSON for the COVID-19 Task Force, Prof. Wiku Adisasmito, said the Center for Disease Control (CDC) placed Indonesia as a level one country in handling COVID-19.
“Currently, the CDC places Indonesia as a country with level one in the midst of controlling COVID-19 which continues to improve. I appreciate all levels of society who have participated in this good achievement,” said Wiku online in Jakarta, Tuesday (11/2).
He explained that nationally, the development of cases from October 25 to October 31, 2021 continued to improve, with an additional 4,339 positive cases, 12,318 active cases or 0.29%, 6,181 or 96.33% recoveries, and 200 deaths. cases or 3.38%.
Wiku added that this achievement was achieved through continuous multi-layered efforts and contributions from all parties, expanding vaccination coverage and health protocol discipline in all community activities.
According to him, efforts that are not comprehensive will have the potential to increase cases, for example in Singapore, Australia and Vietnam, the number of COVID-19 cases is suppressed by a very long time. With the number of cases not more than 50 per day.
“Australia and Singapore, even 60% of the population have been vaccinated with the full dose. However, due to the delta variant, as soon as the case was opened, it immediately increased sharply by 40 to 90%. This shows that restrictions on mobility and efforts to accelerate vaccination are not the only solution to suppress cases. Countries that do both have actually increased cases because of community activities that are not in line with the discipline of health protocols,” he stated.
Meanwhile in Israel, Romania and Ukraine, he said, there was a third wave of spikes. Whereas with the high number of people infected with COVID-19, communal immunity should have been formed. This shows that even regions that have experienced the first and second waves will still have the risk of facing a third wave if efforts to discipline health protocols and increase vaccination coverage are not carried out properly.
Wiku pointed out that there were five things that caused the development of COVID-19 cases in Indonesia to improve. First, the high number of positive cases in the second spike, thus increasing the number of COVID-19 survivors who have immunity. Second, the rapid increase in vaccination coverage in Indonesia.
“Third, efforts to limit community activities that are adapted to regional conditions. Fourth, limiting efforts not only between regions, but also abroad, which further minimizes cases. Fifth, the opening of the socio-economic sector with prudence, accompanied by the 3M health protocol and supervised in every sector,” he concluded. [antaranews]
