THE LAUNCH of the Indonesia Spice Up The World program at the National Day Expo Dubai 2020, United Arab Emirates which was held on Thursday (11/4) local time received support from the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy.
Indonesia Spice Up The World (ISUTW) is a government national strategic program with the aim of increasing economic value in the fields of tourism, trade, and investment through the gastronomic industry. This national program, which is currently coordinated by the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment, has been under discussion since June 2020 by involving all stakeholders from the pentahelix element (Academics, Business, Community, Associations, Government, and Media).
As one of the efforts to expand the marketing of Indonesian spice products or processed food and spices abroad, this program is carried out long term, namely from 2021 to 2024.
According to the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said that Indonesia is a country rich in spices which have become a leading commodity in Europe since hundreds of years ago. so that the glory of Indonesian spices must be restored by increasing production upstream and downstream.
“We must also continue to introduce the superiority of Indonesian spices to all corners of the world, one of which is through the ‘Indonesia Spice Up The World’ program,” President Jokowi.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy together with Ministries/Institutions and related parties have prepared four pillars which are the main concepts for the development of Indonesia Spice Up The World, namely: (1). Spices, Seasoning Products, and Processed Foods (Production, Expert, Packaging, Seasoning Exhibition, and financing assistance), (2). Restaurant Indonesia (Redesign, Promotion, Chef, Raw Material Benchmark, Collaboration), (3). Culinary Promotion (Festivals, Digital Content, Media Collaboration Events, Exhibitions, Conference Forums), (4). Indonesia Culinary Destinations (thematic travel patterns, preparation of gastro destinations, travel, and content of culinary destinations).
It is hoped that through these four pillars, the target of ‘Indonesia Spice Up The World’ by 2024 is the presence of 4,000 restaurants selling Indonesian cuisine abroad and an increase in the export value of prepared spices and simple spices to US$2 billion.
The launch was held at the Indonesia Pavilion and on the Main Stage of the Dubai 2020 National Day Expo which was attended by President Joko Widodo by showing a special ISUTW multimedia content video with the theme “Then, Now and Tomorrow”.
The video shows the potential of Indonesian culinary and spices from ancient times to the present and the achievements that are expected to be realized in the future. It also features six Indonesian dishes that are the main focus, namely Rendang, Nasi Goreng, Satay, Gado-Gado, and Soto Ayam.
The multimedia video Indonesia Spice Up The World is one of the commitments of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy to continue to promote Indonesian cuisine as part of the strength of tourism destinations that needs to be conveyed to the world. [traveltext.id]
