THE GOVERNMENT plans to tighten travel regulations for people within the country during the year-end holidays to prevent increased mobility of citizens who are at risk of increasing the transmission of COVID-19.

“Restrictions on people’s movement from one place to another will later be regulated in the latest circular of the Task Force and the Ministry of Transportation,” said Spokesperson for the COVID-19 Task Force, Prof. Wiku Adisasmito.

In a press conference regarding the handling of COVID-19 which was attended via online from Jakarta, Thursday (11/18), Wiku explained that the enactment of the new travel rules was aimed at ensuring that people traveling were in good health and protected from the risk of transmission of the corona virus.

According to him, the new travel rules will also include efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19 cases between regions.

He also explained that the Level 3 Community Activity Restriction (PPKM) was implemented in all parts of Indonesia to prevent a possible spike in COVID-19 transmission cases during the year-end holidays.

In addition, he continued, the government will intensify supervision of the implementation of health protocols in public facilities.

“This is done to ensure that the increase in the socio-economic activities of the community in various sectors remains controlled and safe, in line with trends, trends, back and forth mobility in the community,” he remarked.

He stated that the supervision of the implementation of the COVID-19 control policy would be carried out at the community level.

“The government really hopes that the public can carry out this regulation with full responsibility, because in principle this effort is for ourselves, to prevent transmission of cases during the Christmas and New Year periods,” Wiku affirmed.

In an effort to suppress the mobility of citizens during the year-end holidays, the government has also abolished collective leave before Christmas and New Year’s Day and prohibited state civil servants as well as TNI and Polri officers from taking leave at the end of the year.
