PEOPLE WHO VACATION ON CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR REVIVE THE ECONOMY

THE MINISTRY of Tourism and Creative Economy appreciates the enthusiasm of the community for vacationing during the Christmas and New Year 2021/2022 so that it has a positive impact on the revival of the domestic economy.

According to the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno in the Weekly Press Briefing, Jakarta, Monday (1/03), said, I think that people have started to dare to travel throughout 2021 due to the control of the COVID-19 pandemic and the expansion of vaccinations in various parts of Indonesia.

“However, we must remain vigilant against new Omicron variants that are spreading more massively. Although there is no exact count yet, I predict that the Christmas and New Year’s moments in 2021/2022 will be better than those of 2020/2021,” he said.

He added that during Christmas and New Year, tourist attractions such as the Ancol Dreamland in North Jakarta reached 18 thousand visits last Saturday (12/25). As for Saturday (1/01), there were 9 thousand visitors in the area.

At Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) in East Jakarta, it was reported that the number of visits reached 14 thousand visitors on Sunday (26/12) and 16,137 thousand people on Sunday (2/1). In addition, the Ragunan Wildlife Park recorded 17,866 thousand visitors on Saturday (1/1) and 16,909 thousand people on Sunday (2/1).

“It’s the same in Bali. Although the number of foreign tourists is still very small, domestic tourists are increasingly coming to Bali,” he remarked.

Based on the statement of Angkasa Pura I, the number of passenger departures during the return flow on Saturday (1/01) was 11,271 people transported on 81 flights. With the end of the year-end holiday period, it is predicted that the number of departures will increase to around 15 thousand more passengers who will leave Bali.

For hotel occupancy, the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) reported that there was an increase on New Year’s Eve nationally, although unevenly. The occupancy rate remains higher than last year even though the government abolished collective leave.

“Even the PHRI estimates that the national occupancy rate at the end of the year can reach the target of an increase of 5-10%. Last year, the average hotel occupancy in December was only in the range of 40 to 50 percent,” Sandiaga noted.

He concluded, the average occupancy rate (occupancy) of hotel rooms in the Bali region during the 2021 Christmas holiday reached 55% and it turned out that 95% of those who met the occupancy were domestic tourists. [traveltext.id]
