THE MINISTRY of Tourism and Creative Economy encourages domestic tourists to travel only in Indonesian territory. This is because there are funds of US$11 billion per year that are spent by Indonesian tourists when traveling abroad from a total of 11 million people.
According to the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno in Badung Regency, Bali, said that we have launched the #DiIndonesiaAja campaign. But we need the cooperation of the entire tourism ecosystem and the creative economy to direct its programs for domestic tourists, because if we just wait for foreign tourists, it will take time.
“Meanwhile, regarding the absence of foreign tourist visits to Bali after I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport reopened its international flights, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy is also trying its best to overcome five main problems which are still considered to be obstacles regarding foreign tourist visits to the Island of the Gods,” he said.
He explained that the problems include the lack of direct flights to Bali, the number of countries that are included in the re-approval list, quarantine, as well as visas and guarantees or insurance.
“If we can solve these five issues and we can overcome them, then we will be able to start accepting foreign tourists through direct flights, and hopefully there will be an insurance program that is more acceptable to tourism actors, especially those for inbound,” said Sandiaga Uno.
The Ministry of Tourism is currently working on strategic steps and forming a special team to formulate policies which are expected to be announced soon.
“As promised last year, Bali has been opened, but it turns out that there is an Omicron issue and some concerns about controlling the pandemic, we will describe this one by one, we will map it out, for the sake of economic revival in Bali,” Sandiaga remarked.
He added that the current condition of Bali is ready to accept foreign tourists with the G20 Summit. It is planned that in January there will also be a special coordination meeting at the ministry level and it will be reported to the President.
“Hopefully there will be a new policy so that we can encourage foreign tourists to enter. But with the existence of Omicron, we must increase our caution and vigilance because the majority of Omicron currently in our midst are from overseas travelers. We have to act and be aware of it,” he added.
Sandiaga Uno appealed to the public to continue to improve the implementation of health protocols and intensify vaccinations and COVID-19 boosters, especially for children aged 6-11 years.
