PRESIDENT JOKOWI DECIDES TO REDUCE THE MANDALIKA MOTOGP AUDIENCE TO 60,000

PRESIDENT Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has decided to reduce the number of MotoGP spectators at the Pertamina Mandalika Circuit, Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, on March 18-20 from the initial plan of 100,000 people to 60,000 spectators.

This was decided by President Jokowi in the Limited implementation of restrictions on community activities (PPKM) Evaluation Meeting with a number of ministers on Sunday, as stated by Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto in a virtual press conference after the meeting.

“The President’s directive regarding Mandalika, which originally had 100 thousand viewers, was reduced to 60 thousand with the current situation,” said Airlangga as heard from the official YouTube channel of the Presidential Secretariat, Sunday (2/27).

The decision was taken after reviewing the current situation regarding active COVID-19 cases and vaccination rates in Central Lombok and NTB districts.

Minister Airlangga reported that in Central Lombok Regency the first dose of COVID-19 vaccination had reached 91.5%, the second dose was 74% and the third dose or booster was only 1.2%. While overall in NTB the rate of vaccination for the first dose of COVID-19 was 91.4%, the second dose was 65.3% and the booster dose was 2.6%.

“And of course, in terms of the number of active cases in NTB there are 3,200 with a BOR (hospital occupancy rate) of 20%, this is below the national level,” said Minister Airlangga.

Earlier on Monday (21/2), Coordinating Minister Airlangga had also said that the active cases of COVID-19 in NTB had surpassed the peak of the Delta variant wave, but the trend had decreased.

Furthermore, the coordinating minister also ensures that the government continues to accelerate the realization of the second dose of vaccination and booster dose in the local area as a mitigation measure and preparation before the second MotoGP series in 2022. [antaranews/photo special]
