PRESIDENT JOKOWI’S CAMP IN THE IKN COULD TRIGGER A NEW TOURISM TREND

PRESIDENT Joko Widodo (Jokowi)’s camping agenda in the zero-kilometer area of the Capital of the Nusantara (IKN) could trigger a new trend for outdoor camping tourism, especially with the theme of glamping.

According to a tourism observer from Jenderal Soedirman University, Chusmeru, Monday (3/14) night, said that when a president is camping, the image that is formed is glamping in the open. This could give rise to a new trend of glamping tours.

“Glamping tourism or glamorous camping is a type of tour that offers convenience for tourists who want to experience camping but don’t need to bother setting up their own tents and equipment because usually glamping tourist sites already provide tent sets and camping equipment,” he said.

Glamping tourism is now widely available in various regions. Unfortunately, according to Chusmeru, it has not shown significant development, one of which is due to the lack of activities and tourist attractions offered by the manager.

So, he said, if packaged properly, glamping tourism has the potential to be developed as an alternative in the tourism industry, especially for the millennial generation who are bored with favorite tourist objects and want to return to nature.

Chusmeru also considered that Jokowi’s agenda to camp at the zero point of the IKN shows evidence of the government’s seriousness in building the IKN, so it needs appreciation.

“In addition, President Jokowi’s activities with the five governors on the island of Kalimantan also raise hopes for a better future in the Kalimantan region, so as to reduce the impression of being Java-centric,” he said.

President Jokowi camped and stayed at the zero point of the IKN in Sepaku District, North Penajam Paser Regency, East Kalimantan with five governors throughout Kalimantan from Monday (3/14) to Tuesday (3/15) afternoon.

In addition, there are SOE Minister Erick Thohir, Investment Minister/Head of BKPN Bahlil Lahadalia, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Agung, and Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono.

In the agenda, President Jokowi also performed the Kendi Nusantara ritual. The governors were instructed to bring water and soil from their respective regions of origin, then put them together in the Archipelago Kendi which was stored at the zero point of the IKN, as a form of diversity.

The tent used by the President for camping is a white-water inflatable tent with a size large enough for two people. The tent is an inventory of the Presidential Secretariat during the earthquake in Poso, Central Sulawesi, in 2019.

With this agenda, Chusmeru hopes that glamping tourism can later be developed in all provinces in the country with interesting concepts such as ecotourism and edutourism, so that tourists can enjoy the beauty of nature while preserving and learning from nature.

“With a note, accessibility to glamping attractions is easy to reach. Equally important is the convenience of the internet network for tourists, especially for millennial tourists who always upload their tourist activities right away on social media,” he said.

“It is also important to pay attention to environmental sustainability. Do not let glamping tourism actually cause pollution and environmental damage,” he concluded. [antaranews]
