EIGHT BRITISH COMPANIES INTERESTED IN BUILDING MRT JAKARTA PHASE 3

PT MRT Jakarta claims that eight major British companies are interested in being involved in the construction of Phase 3 of the East-West Line MRT. This was revealed in a roundtable discussion entitled Building Sustainable MRTJ East West Corridor which was held recently in London, England.

During the visit, the Governor of DKI Jakarta Anies Baswedan explained the plans for the construction of Phase 3 Cikarang-Balaraja and Phase 4 Fatmawati-TMII and the future of Jakarta’s development based on public transportation and transit-oriented.

According to him, the main problem for many years in Jakarta is that its development has always been car-oriented. Currently, and in the future, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will change the paradigm to a transit-oriented development.

“With that, we have also restructured public transportation in Jakarta, development zone regulations, and city planning to reflect a transit-oriented area-based approach. We have done all of that for the last four years,” Anies said in his statement, Sunday (5/15).

The DKI Provincial Government, Anies continued, wants to build a public transportation system that can cover all areas in Jakarta that are integrated with each other and affordable.

Main recruited by MRT Jakarta (Perseroda) William Sabandar said that the eight major British companies that support the Phase 3 MRT project are Crossrail International, XRail Group, Arup, Colas Rail, BDP, Alstom, Mott MacDonald, and Standard Chartered Bank, accompanied by UK Export. Finance and the UK Department of International Trade.

According to him, the eight companies take turns explaining the capacity and support they can provide to accelerate the construction of MRT Jakarta phases 3 and 4.

“No less than eight British railway sector companies have heard directly about the MRT Jakarta development plan, particularly Phase 3 Sikarang-Balaraja and Phase 4 Fatmawati-TMII,” William said.

William said this meeting was a follow-up commitment to the visit of the Secretary of State for International Trade the Rt. Hon Anne-Marie Trevelyan MP in February 2022.

During the meeting, Minister Trevelyan will facilitate a meeting between the provincial government of DKI Jakarta and the railway industry players in the United Kingdom to explore how British companies can contribute to the development of the railway industry in the city of Jakarta.

“More broadly, this meeting also opens up other cooperation opportunities, such as the development of transit-oriented areas, intermodal integration areas according to MRT Jakarta functions such as city regenerators,” William concluded. [kompas.com/photo special]
