SANDIAGA UNO: I INVITE INVESTMENT FOR DSPs, KEKs AND INTERNATIONAL EVENTS

TOURISM and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno has invited investors to invest in the five super-priority destinations (DSPs) and eight special economic zones (KEKs) as well as fund Indonesia’s preparations for international-scale events.

“For instance, the G20 Summit and ASEAN Summit,” he said at the Tourism and Creative Economy Investment and Financing Forum, Friday (7/29).

Sandiaga continued that it is hoped that investments will encourage economic revival and create 1.1 million new jobs in 2022, he added. The development of the eight tourism KEKs requires a total investment of IDR226.79 trillion (US$15.09 billion).

“The KEKs include Morotai in North Maluku province, Singosari in East Java province, Tanjung Lesung in Banten province, Likupang in North Sulawesi province, Lido in West Java province, Nongsa in Riau Islands province, Tanjung Kelayang in Bangka Belitung Islands province, and Mandalika in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) province,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the financing needs of three tourism authority boards (BOP), namely Borobudur BOP in Central Java, Labuan Bajo BOP in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), and Lake Toba BOP in North Sumatra, have reached IDR6.7 trillion (US$445.6 million).

“According to President Joko Widodo’s (Jokowi’s) directives that infrastructure projects must be completed in 2023–2024, nothing (no investment realization) is allowed to be stalled. Hence, investors should expedite the completion of the project, thus the target of 4.4 million new jobs can be achieved by 2024,” the minister said.

He added that investors have a big opportunity to invest in several tourism destinations across Indonesia, considering the country’s ranking in the World Economic Forum’s (WEF’s) 2021 Travel & Tourism Development Index (TTDI) increased by 12 places to 32nd out of 117 countries.

“Through the implementation of the Tourism and Creative Economy Investment and Financing Forum, more innovative financing schemes could be established to fund other tourism projects and speed up the development of the five DSPs and eight KEKs,” Sandiaga concluded. [traveltext.id/photo special]
