PORSCHE HOPES TO BUILD MORE THAN 80,000 UNITS ELECTRIC MACANS

VOLKSWAGEN sports car brand Porsche hopes to build more than 80,000 electric Macans, the same number as the internal combustion engine variant of the SUV segment.

According to the head of Porsche production Albrecht Reimold told Automobilwoche magazine in an interview, quoted from the Hindustan Times, Monday (8/22) said Porsche had been hinting at the electric Macan for several years and in early 2021 finally confirmed the vehicle.

“Porsche hopes to produce as many units of the Macan model as possible in an electric version like the original with an internal combustion engine. We produce more than 80,000 units of the current generation, and in the long term we also plan to produce as many electric Tigers as possible,” said Reimold.

The Macan compact SUV is one of Porsche’s best-selling models. So far, Porsche’s only electric car model is the Taycan coupe. The Tiger electric vehicle is expected to join the portfolio in 2023/24.

The electric Porsche Macan is currently in development. This electric SUV shares several components with the Audi Q6 e-Tron. Both the electric Porsche Macan and Audi Q6 e-Tron will use the new PPE (Premium Platform Electric) modular platform developed by Porsche in partnership with Audi.

Multiple iterations of this architecture will support multiple models across the Volkswagen Group. The electric Porsche Macan prototype has been seen tested several times. The automaker is reportedly relying on real and virtual world testing to accelerate development of the electric Tiger, especially to sharpen the aerodynamics of electric vehicles.
