TOURISM MINISTRY-SMESHUB COOPERATION IN MANAGING MSME PLASTIC WASTE

THE MINISTRY of Tourism and Creative Economy is collaborating with Smeshub in managing the waste produced by Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) players, especially plastic waste, to be converted into products that not only have added value but also have export value.

This collaboration was marked by the signing of the MoU between the Deputy for Destination Development and Infrastructure of the Ministry of Tourism, Vinsensius Jemadu and the Deputy for Digital Economy and Creative Products of the Ministry of Tourism, M. Neil El Himam with the Founder & CEO of SmesHub, Lutpi Ginanjar and witnessed by the Minister of Tourism. and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno.

Sandiaga said that waste is one of the problems that cannot be completely resolved. The government targets nationally to reduce waste by 30% and waste management or handling by 70% by 2025.

Therefore, he appreciates this collaboration, which in its implementation will be able to educate and involve the community to contribute to waste sorting so that it can create jobs.

“I appreciate SmesHub for its focus on turning disasters into blessings and being able to educate the community, involving the community in a fairly broad scope of cooperation,” said Sandiaga.

Meanwhile, the Founder & CEO of SmesHub, Lutpi Ginanjar, said that this program started from his concern to help manage the waste produced by MSME players, especially plastic waste. In collaboration with a company in Malaysia, SmesHub then collects and sorts waste from MSMEs for export.

“In July 2022 we were asked by a company in Malaysia to export 50 tons of waste, and from there we were asked to increase it to 4,000 tons per month,” said Lutpi.

Therefore, this collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy is expected to help SMEs in managing waste in the future.

The scope of this cooperation will later include the exchange and utilization of data and/or information; support for waste management in tourism destinations; implementation of coordination with stakeholders related to the solid waste sector; supporting the program to facilitate the growth of the local creative product industry which is one of the drivers of the social economy; as well as supporting programs in the field of strengthening governance and facilitating digital economy stakeholders in the creative economy.
