BALI’S NGURAH RAI AIRPORT IS OPTIMISTIC TO REACH 12 MILLION PASSENGERS

GENERAL Manager of Angkasa Pura I at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport Bali, Handy Heryudhitiawan, is optimistic that he can close 2022 with a total of 12 million passengers, if you look at the data from travelers up to Christmas and the New Year.

“Until the end of this year, we estimate that from the available data there will be 12 million passengers and we are optimistic, while in 2021 we will close the books of 3.7 million. We will continue to watch and it may continue to increase,” he said in Denpasar, quoted Monday, December 12, 2022 .

Handy said that in November 2022 passengers at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport would reach 10.8 million with 44 thousand-45 thousand passengers per day, and entering December, arrivals could reach 49 thousand-50 thousand passengers per day.

“But what needs to be anticipated is that this is still below 2019. In 2019 the peak period in Denpasar will be up to 24 million passengers, 65 thousand-70 thousand per day, currently 49 thousand-50 thousand, still below,” he said.

Even though he was hit by negative issues regarding the Criminal Code, Handy said he was optimistic that the target of 12 million passengers could be achieved if you look at the domestic and international numbers which are dominated by Australia, India and the United Kingdom which continue to rise.

To anticipate a surge in passengers during Christmas and New Year, Handy said that his party would alert the Christmas and New Year Posts, which are predicted to be built on December 18 2022-January 4 2023 awaiting directions from the Ministry of Transportation.

“Christmas and New Year we are preparing the post as usual and we have to ensure the readiness of the airport to serve, so from the existing data there is indeed growth at this time. This is a sign for Bali in particular, that the better it is in terms of guest arrivals the higher it is,” he said.

The Christmas and New Year Command Post, he said, would be used for operations, security, services, and as a gathering place for various institutions to coordinate more quickly when there is an increase in air transport service users.

“So because there are indeed many guests who come, they must be followed up immediately. This is related to being more coordinated in one place. We will prepare one place, yes, at the airport,” said GM Angkasa Pura I at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, Bali.

When compared to conditions at the end of 2021, Handy sees that this year the Christmas and New Year Posts which will be built at the domestic terminal will be more closely coordinated, because the movements will be different compared to 2021 which was tight due to COVID-19.

Regarding the COVID-19 pandemic which has not been completely over, he said that I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport continues to coordinate with the Port Health Office (KKP) to ensure the rules must be implemented.

From his notes, Handy also saw that there had been no extra flight efforts considering that there were still several empty slots out of a total of 32 take off and landing notices of Airport Capacity (NAC) at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport. [sources/photo special]
