PRESIDENT Joko Widodo (Jokowi) carried out the topping off or final completion of the roof of the Indoor Multifunction Stadium (IMS) building in the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) area which is the largest closed multifunctional arena in Indonesia with a capacity of 16,250 seats.
“By saying Bismillahirahmanirahim and in the afternoon I declare the topping off of the Indoor Multifunction Stadium Gelora Bung Karno has been completed,” said President Jokowi at the Gelora Bung Karno IMS development project in Jakarta, Friday (01/13).
In his remarks President Jokowi said the construction of the multifunctional arena which had been carried out since 2021 with an area of 50,300 square meters had spent a budget of IDR 639 billion.
President Jokowi emphasized that the government will build various world-class facilities in Jakarta. “We will continue to build Jakarta and equip it so that Jakarta has facilities that are on par with other cities in the world,” he said.
The President explained that IMS is a large-capacity multifunctional arena that can be used for sporting events or arts and cultural performances. “And it can function well for sporting events such as basketball, badminton, futsal, volleyball, and can also be used for cultural and performing arts festivals, as well as music concerts with a very large capacity,” he said.
State-Owned Enterprises Minister Erick Thohir, who accompanied President Jokowi in the event, explained that IMS Gelora Bung Karno was built by the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) with a number of state-owned companies since April 2021 and is targeted for completion in June 2023.
Erick Thohir said the IMS development applied the concept of green technology, built with the 7D system, which was built using Computer AI Analysis for development that was right on target.
“This will be used in June for the world basketball championship, which we are hosting for the first time,” Erick Thohir remarked.
