SANDIAGA UNO: THE IKN RELOCATION WILL NOT AFFECT HOTEL SITUATION IN JAKARTA

THE INDONESIA’S Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno said that the relocation of the National Capital City (IKN) to East Kalimantan would not have a substantial and fundamental long-term effect on the situation for hotels in DKI Jakarta.

“For example, the United States, New York is still high even though the capital is in Washington DC. Sydney or Melbourne, whose capital is in Canberra, hotel occupancy is still high and economic activity is still increasing,” said Sandiaga Uno in the Indonesia Tourism Outlook 2023 which was held in Jakarta, Wednesday (01/18).

These things, continued Sandiaga Uno, were considerations that made him optimistic that investment in hotels and hospitallity in DKI Jakarta would get better.

“For this reason, I ask the central government and the DKI Jakarta Government to immediately decide on concrete plans for the future of the city of Jakarta, regarding the relocation of the national capital to Kalimantan,” he said.

Moving the nation’s capital to East Kalimantan will have a very serious impact on hotels and restaurants in Jakarta. Precisely the fate of hotels and restaurants really depends on the fate of Jakarta. But until now we are not sure whether Jakarta will become a city of finance, trade, industry or tourism.

If the designation of the city of Jakarta is known, he explained, of course hoteliers and restaurants will also be able to immediately adjust their business. [sources/photo special]
