GLOBAL hotel management company IHG Hotels & Resorts hopes to create as many as 1,500 new jobs in Indonesia by 2023.
According to IHG Managing Director of Southeast Asia and Korea Rajit Sukumaran in a press statement received in Jakarta on Sunday (03/05), said they invested heavily in Indonesia after opening the first IHG hotel in 1995 and investment will grow 50% in the next few years.
“In Southeast Asia, the company is targeting 7,000 new jobs this year. The effort is at the core of the company’s recruitment strategy of human capital development. As we continue to expand our resources and capabilities, we will focus on creating an environment where everyone can grow and develop their careers,” Sukumaran said.
Data from the World Travel and Tourism Council states that the global travel industry will add 126 million jobs in the next 10 years, with 65% or 76.9 million new jobs in Asia Pacific. This is an estimate based on APAC Travel & Tourism GDP growth of 8.5%.
“In Southeast Asia and Korea, IHG is present in 10 countries with more than 100 hotels in operation and 90 hotels under completion. In Indonesia, IHG has 25 hotels. In order to attract the best talent in each country where the company operates, both from within and outside the hospitality industry, IHG said it has developed employee recruitment and retention strategies,” he remarked.
IHG is also increasing its focus on human resource development. In addition, the company is also increasing other commitments such as creating a strong and inclusive culture and providing flexible working conditions.
To support talent entering the hospitality industry, according to IHG, the company has developed a series of programs including creating a career path for aspiring hoteliers and a first-class approach to developing employees.
Recently, the company also launched the IHG Skills Academy virtual classroom training program. The program is offered for young people to get job-ready and explore a career in hospitality.
