SOEKARNO-HATTA INT’L AIRPORT NAMED ONE OF GLOBAL LCC TOP MEGAHUB

SOEKARNO-Hatta International Airport has been named one of the most connected megahubs or airports in the world. The UK-based aviation analysis agency, OAG, ranked Soekarno-Hatta Airport sixth in the list of Top 25 Low-cost Carrier Airport Megahubs 2022.

“The collaboration of all stakeholders has made Soekarno-Hatta Airport able to accelerate the recovery of flight traffic in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said AP II President Director Muhammad Awaluddin in a written statement, Monday (03/06), 2023.

OAG determines the 2022 megahub list using a connectivity index that measures the effectiveness of international airports in the world as connecting points (globally and regionally). In addition, it is also a gateway into the domestic market.

Soekarno-Hatta Airport’s ranking in the Top 25 LCC Megahub 2022 in sixth position is better than previously in 2019 in eighth position. The Soekarno-Hatta Airport ranking is also the highest for the ASEAN region.

While for the Asian region, the position of Soekarno-Hatta Airport is ranked 3rd. Rankings 1 and 2 in the Top 25 LCC Airport Megahub 2022 are occupied by airports in India, then ranks 3 to 5 are occupied by airports in the United States.

Awaluddin said, flight demand in the midst of the recovery period could be fulfilled well by AP II and all stakeholders at Soekarno-Hatta Airport. “So that flight connectivity in Indonesia remains strong,” Awaluddin said.

He said, the growth of the LCC market could also be maximized by Soekarno-Hatta Airport. In the Top 25 LCC Megahub 2022, the position of Soekarno-Hatta Airport exceeds 2019 when there is no Covid-19 pandemic.

“This is certainly good news where AP II together with stakeholders are able to accommodate demand for LCC,” said Awauddin.

He said, Soekarno-Hatta Airport is a hub for tourists to continue their journey to various tourist destinations using various airlines including LCC airlines. LCC airlines operating at Soekarno-Hatta Airport include Citilink, Lion Air, AirAsia Indonesia, and Super Air Jet. [sources/photo special]
