TOURISM MINISTRY FOCUSES ON ECONOMIC RECOVERY PROGRAMS POST-PANDEMIC

THE INDONESIAN Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy said that after the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ministry of Tourism will focus on programs oriented towards the recovery of the Indonesian economy.

According to Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno in Jakarta (03/09) said the government’s post-pandemic policy is directed at achieving the performance targets of the tourism sector and creative economy so that it has an impact on improving the community’s economy and creating the widest possible job opportunities.

“For 2023, the Ministry of Tourism has set achievement targets in the tourism and creative economy sectors, namely 3.4 million to 7.4 million foreign tourist visits, 1.2 billion to 1.4 billion Nusantara tourist movements, an increase in ranking in the Travel and Tourism Development Index (TTDI) between 29-34, as well as a tourism workforce target of 21.93 million people and a creative economy workforce of 22.59 million people,” he said.

He explained, in addition, the tourism foreign exchange target is expected to reach US$2.07-5.95 billion, the contribution of tourism GDP is 4.10%, the export value of ecraf products is US$26.46 billion, and the target of ecraf added value is projected at IDR1,279 trillion.

The fulfillment of this target is accompanied by the spirit of 3G (Gercep, Geber, Gaspol) or the spirit of fast movement (gercep), joint movement (geber) and all potential employment (gaspol) as well as Innovation, Adaptation, and Collaboration echoed by Tourism Ministry.

“Of course we will continue to focus on programs that are right on target, right on benefits, right on time, and oriented towards the recovery of the Indonesian economy for the creation of 4.4 million jobs in the tourism sector and creative economy in 2024,” he said.

The revocation of the Enforcement of Restrictions on Community Activities (PPKM) at the end of December 2022, according to him, was the starting point for the revival of the tourism and creative economy sector (parekraf) which had been slumped for more than 2 years due to COVID-19.

Therefore, the government encourages parekraf business actors, most of whom are Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), to rise again through digitization programs and encourage MSMEs to rise to the level of corporations or businesses that have legal entities.

In addition, the government is also committed to improving the quality of human resources for MSME players through upskilling, reskilling, and newskilling programs to build businesses in the future so that they open up many business opportunities and jobs.

“The government encourages MSME players to showcase their flagship products in major national and international events in an effort to increase marketing and sales,” Sandiaga added.

Kemenparekraf will also continue to provide assistance for parekraf business actors by strengthening local tourist attractions, incentive and promotion programs, increasing the competence of local human resources and assistance with other subsidy support. It is hoped that this effort can support the creation of more quality and sustainable Parekraf human resources.

He also encouraged tourism industry and creative economy businesses to consistently implement CHSE to create a sense of security, comfort, and fun for tourists when traveling.

“Also for tourists to continue to prioritize health and safety in traveling by remaining vigilant against the spread of COVID-19,” he said.

Sandiaga concluded, through the herd immunity level that reaches 98%, I hope that Indonesia can prepare for the endemic with high public awareness to live healthy and continue to apply health protocols. [sources/photo special]
